How to read the table

Start with the region where the target service is located, then check the route type and streaming label. A shorter distance is not always a better fit: for US services, a North American exit usually matches regional requirements better than a nearby-region exit.

How the three route types differ

IEPL, relay and direct routes are not plan tiers; they are different transport methods between the entry point and exit. Consider the task duration, target region and local network conditions together when choosing.

DIRECT EXPRESS

IEPL: A direct path for sustained tasks

IEPL places key links between the entry point and overseas exit on a dedicated transport path, reducing the impact of intermediate public-internet hops. It suits video meetings, long file-sync sessions, remote desktops, sustained AI tool use and work that needs sessions to remain stable during busy hours. Because it generally costs more than relay or direct routes, it is best for tasks where stability comes first, rather than for every web visit.

When choosing IEPL, match the destination region first. For services in Japan, start with Tokyo; for US developer platforms or content services, start with a US exit. IEPL addresses the transport path, while site maintenance, account region and access rules remain determined by the relevant service.

RELAY ROUTE

Relay: An extra hop between entry and exit

A relay route connects to a nearby entry first, then forwards traffic to the target exit through a relay node. Like a transfer, it avoids requiring the local network to carry the entire long-distance path directly and assigns different sections to more suitable links. For everyday browsing, social platforms, short videos, standard-definition streaming and routine downloads, relay routes often balance connection experience and route cost.

Relay is not always faster than direct. If the local carrier’s path to the relay entry is poor, another entry region may work better. If pages open but images load intermittently, video repeatedly buffers or long connections keep rebuilding, try another relay in the same target region and compare it with IEPL.

Direct: From the local network to the exit

A direct route connects the local network to an exit in the target region without an additional relay entry. Its structure is simple and regional coverage is easy to expand, making it suitable for regional content, brief visits to international websites, backup connections and tasks that need a specific country exit without demanding a sustained connection. For farther regions such as Europe, South America and Oceania, start with direct to confirm that the region matches.

Direct routes depend more on the public-internet path from the local carrier to the target region, so city names alone do not predict the experience. The same exit may perform differently across networks and times of day. If direct meets the task, there is no need to switch just because another route has a different name; if problems persist, try a relay or IEPL route in the same region.

How to Choose a Route

Choose a route by use case

The farther the city, the more complex the path is usually; the target service’s region also matters. The methods below consider proximity and service location separately, so you do not keep switching based on route names alone.

Everyday browsing

For international websites, reading resources and social platforms, start with a nearby relay or direct route. Asia-Pacific exits such as Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore and Seoul are usually convenient starting points. If the site clearly serves content by region, switch to the service’s region instead of staying on the nearest exit.

Everyday browsing usually involves many short connections. After switching routes, judge the result by continuous page loading, complete image display and a stable login session. Avoid changing countries repeatedly during one task, as the service may request additional confirmation after regional changes.

Streaming video

First identify the region associated with the content, then choose a route carrying the matching streaming label in the table. Test a US exit for US content, London for UK content and Tokyo for Japanese content. Account registration region, payment region and platform rights rules can also affect the result; a route label only indicates a suitable exit to test.

Keep the same exit after playback starts and avoid switching regions mid-stream. If the homepage opens but the content page reports a regional mismatch, close the app, reconnect through another route in the same region and open it again. If playback works but keeps buffering, switch from direct to relay or IEPL within the same region.

AI Tools

Web chat, coding assistance and API calls all depend heavily on session continuity. Choose an exit based on the service region, then test relay or IEPL first. After signing in, keep the region fixed where possible; avoid switching from an Asia-Pacific exit to North America or Europe during a task. For sustained generation, file uploads or development-environment connections, a stable exit in the same region usually matters more than frequent route changes.

If the web interface works but API requests often disconnect, check the development tool’s timeout settings, request concurrency and whether the exit has changed. Routes only handle the network path; usage limits, model status and server-side restrictions are controlled by the AI platform.

Gaming connections

Choose a route based on the game server’s region, not the account language. For Asia servers, start with Tokyo, Seoul or Singapore; for North American servers, start with a western US exit; for European servers, check Frankfurt, London or Amsterdam first. Updates and live matches can use different routes: prioritize sustained transfer for downloads and connection stability for matches.

Some games or console environments require additional network settings. The VPNJR client supports Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and Linux. On each device, obtain the client and subscription from the user panel first, then configure it using the device’s supported method.

Remote work

Video meetings, corporate dashboards, remote desktops and cloud file sync often run for extended periods. Choose an exit in the same region as the work service or team system, then compare IEPL and relay routes first. Keep the exit unchanged after connecting, and switch regions only after the meeting or sync is complete to reduce the impact of login-environment changes on your workflow.

If a corporate system requires a specific region or exit, follow your organization’s access rules first. International routes improve cross-border connectivity; they do not change account permissions or replace the organization’s own security policies.

How to switch when a connection is not a good fit

Choosing a route is not a one-time decision. Network conditions, the target service’s region and the current task can all change which exit works best. A fixed troubleshooting order is more effective than switching randomly and repeatedly.

  1. Keep the target region

    First try another route within the same country or region. This helps determine whether the issue comes from one path or the target service itself, while avoiding repeated changes to the account region.

  2. Change the route type

    If direct is unstable, try relay; if relay is still unsuitable for sustained tasks, test IEPL. If direct already meets your needs, there is no reason to keep switching just because the names differ.

  3. Reconnect the app

    After switching exits, close the web page or app session you are using and open it again. Some apps retain an old connection; changing routes without restarting the app may leave it on the previous path.

  4. Keep a working exit

    After testing, note the region and route type that fit the current task. Work, AI tools and streaming can each have different preferred options; one route does not need to handle every use case.

“100+ countries / 220+ routes” describes VPNJR’s overall regional and route coverage. It does not mean every country uses the same route types or that every exit carries the same streaming labels. Core regions usually offer several route types, while coverage-focused regions may rely mainly on direct routes.

Route names describe the exit city and transport method. Results are also affected by the local network, target-service maintenance, account region, app cache and device settings. Choose the region by use case first, then select the type; change routes one at a time only when a clear issue appears.
